Notebook will not POST:
If a notebook will not turn on, one of the first steps we suggest is to remove the battery, unplug the AC power, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Once this is done, connect only the AC adapter and attempt to turn on the computer. This is certainly not a guaranteed fix, but it can resolve about 50% of the non-POST issues we receive.
Notebook randomly Blue-Screens:
There are many possible explanations for a blue-screen, but the very first avenue we troubleshoot is your system memory, or RAM. To test your RAM, we use a program called Memtest86, which may be downloaded from:
http://www.memtest.org/download/1.65/memtest86+-1.65.iso.zip
Once downloaded, you will need to extract this .ZIP file and use a program like Nero Express or DeepBurner to burn this .ISO image to a blank CD-R (please note that only programs like Nero, DeepBurner, Alcohol 120%, and similar software will work. These programs give you the option to burn an ISO image, rather than simply adding data to a CD project), then boot your computer off of the CD-R (since different notebooks can have different BIOS boot settings, please call us if you are unsure how to make your computer boot from a CD-R).
Memtest86 will run until you press "Esc(ape)" to stop it. We suggest running it overnight for around 8 hours to truly "burn in" your RAM. The lower-right number will show how many, if any, errors have been found in your RAM. If even a single error is found, we can arrange to have the RAM replaced under warranty, provided your warranty is still current.
